Lagoon Water Management
The BLPOA is licensed by the State of California to protect the quality of the water in the lagoon that originates from Richardson Bay,
In addition to maintaining water quality, the BLPOA controls the lagoon water level to establish an appropriate balance between recreational use (approximately April 1st to October 31st) and flood control requirements (approximately November 1st to March 31st).
Lagoon water level is controlled through three gates at culverts that run under San Rafael Avenue connecting the lagoon to Richardson Bay. These gates allow salt water into the lagoon during high tides, and water discharge during low tides.
Lagoon water levels are also affected by storm water runoff that enters the lagoon through Tiburon's and Belvedere's drainage systems.
